About the Kwai Tsing District

Kwai Tsing is situated in southwest New Territories with an area of 2 237 hectares. According to the Population and Household Statistics Analysed by District Council District of the Census and Statistics Department, the population of Kwai Tsing is around 500 000 in 2023, accounting for 6.7% of the territorial population, of which the population aged 65 or above is 23.8%. There are approximately 60% people living in public housing.

There are 25 public housing estates, 17 Home Ownership Scheme estates, 1 Green Form Subsidised Home Ownership Scheme Court, 3 Sandwich Class Housing Scheme estates and a number of private housing estates in Kwai Tsing. With some large-scale shopping centres and a comprehensive transport network, including the Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, Route 3, Route 8, MTR and Airport Railway, the residents in the District can enjoy a comfortable and convenient living environment.

Regarding education facilities, there are about 2 institutes of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, 31 secondary schools, 31 primary schools, 66 kindergartens/ kindergarten-cum-child care centres, and 6 special schools in Kwai Tsing to provide quality education services.

There are 2 hospitals under the Hospital Authority in Kwai Tsing, namely the Princess Margaret Hospital and the Kwai Chung Hospital. There are also a number of health care facilities, including 6 general out-patient clinics, 3 dental clinics, 3 maternal & child health centres, 4 community nursing service centres, 1 elderly health centre, 1 student health service centre, which provide comprehensive health care services to residents in the District.

There are a full range of sports, leisure, recreational and cultural facilities in the District, including the Kwai Tsing Theatre, Tsing Yi Nature Trail, 9 community halls/centres, 3 public libraries, 8 indoors sports centres, 3 sports grounds, 4 swimming pools, 76 playgrounds and parks (including Central Kwai Chung Park and Tsing Yi Park), Hong Kong ISSF Air Gun Shooting Centre and International BMX Park.

Hong Kong is one of the busiest container ports in the world. The Kwai Tsing Container Terminals (Container Terminals 1-8 in Kwai Chung and Container Terminal 9 in Tsing Yi) spreads across the coastal area of Kwai Chung, Stonecutters Island and Tsing Yi. It plays an important role in the freight forwarding industry in Hong Kong and is the major container logistics centre in Hong Kong. The Kwai Tsing Container Terminals covers a total area of about 279 hectares, comprises 9 container terminals with 24 berths and has a total handling capacity of about 20 million TEUs per year.

In addition to handling cargos from Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta, the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals also engages in logistic business with countries from as far as the continents of Africa, South America and so on.

Tsing Ma Bridge

The Lantau Link View Point is located in the northwestern part of Tsing Yi and has attracted around 130 000 visitors every year. With a magnificent view of the Tsing Ma Bridge and vibrant colours of rhododendron flower beds, it has become a major scenic spot in the District. Visitors can also get a glimpse of the landscape of the Ting Kau Bridge and Ma Wan Channel there.

Other special attractions in the District also include the Chun Kwan Temple and the Tin Hau Temple.
